    Easy Keeping Breeds

This is a devils advocate question because I am looking for answer not telling how I think it is. It seems if a breed can have certain traits such as disease tolerance or good in heat or good in cold weather. That it would be possible that a breed as a general group would be able to lean more...

    Easy Keeping Breeds

You don't think that some breed charactaristics such as simmental being heavy milkers would play a part in food consumption? I know there is heavy milkers within each breed but would a Simmental with low milk epd likely consume more feed than a Hereford with a moderate milk epd? I know there...

    Easy Keeping Breeds

I have considered a MG Bull or Hereford bull to replace my Simmental bull. We want to retain heifers. Are cows are already moderate and most are easy keepers. But I am afraid retained heifers from Simmental might go backwards not the way I want. If I went Hereford then I could add some Red...

    Easy Keeping Breeds

I know in past there has been some longhorn bashing on the forum. So I do not want to go there. But hard to picture longhorns being the answer as meat producers. Still need to hang a good carcass and produce pounds.

    Easy Keeping Breeds

I know there is easy keepers within all breeds. But can it be said that as a whole certain breeds have a reputation as easy keepers? Seems I see Red Angus, and Murray Grey using the easy keeping sales pitch a lot. Do some breeds help to maximize grass feeding more than others? With feed...

    What Is A Hobby Breed?

Around here people do not expand because it cost to much to do so. I know where land is available right now to expand but the price of cattle would not justify the cost of the land. Or at least it would be a scary venture that if the cattle market hit a bigger down slide you would end up loosing.

    What Is A Hobby Breed?

Even if the small guy producing 10 head at a time quit that does not mean the beef would come from another country. If Supply went down then price would go up, and then those doing it as a business would most likely be able to expand and pick up the slack of the hobby guys quiting.

    What Is A Hobby Breed?

I use to have a link were the department of Agriculture classified you a Hobby farm if you made less than $10,000.00 but it is a dead link now. But one way I would classify a person a hobby farm (and this includes me) is if you are spending money on your land instead of making money on it. If...

    What Is A Hobby Breed?

America is the land of the free and land of opportunity so everyone has the right to raise and do as they please. But being a person that raises some cattle with what started as a hobby for my kids 4-H (but now I hope to turn it in to more of a small business). I can still see the side of...

    What Is A Hobby Breed?

If there is such a classification as Hobby Breed, I would say it is one that people eeww and awww over or pick because of how they look not so much as to how they produce. Like them Panda cattle, or miniature Herefords and maybe Long horns. Just because something is a Hobby item does not mean...

hmmmm now it is gone and I did not delete it! Here was the the point that I do not feel I was wrong about. I do not want to run down any persons operation, I am last one either by knowledge, experience or head of cattle that can claim to be an expert. This discussion started with the...

Depends doesn't it. If she says she has never seen your cattle or has no first hand information. Then I did a good job, meaning she validated your operation without really every confirming it. That would be very irresponsible of her wouldn't it? Now if she says yes I have been to his ranch...

Not very many I know of that are knowledgeable cattle men have websites. I always figured it was more the opposite if anything. Seems lots of people familiar with computers and internet that are new to cattle run out and get websites for their 10 head, trucks and trailers with farm names on them...
