gcreek, you should offer internships for aspiring cattleman/vets. One spring with you and they would experience more calving and doctoring than any vet school could ever give someone. And the biggest bonus is you could end up with some help for calving season. :)

Wow, seems like you are having a bad run of luck lately. If I've been keeping track right, that's 3 heifers you've done a c-section on this year. Hope your luck turns around and congrats on another good save.

They will kill calves. Neighbor won't even let his dairy cows calve outside after the eagles killed 2 calves couple years ago. They will take any easy meal they see, nothing but vultures.

Glad you found java in time. I've had a cow a steer and a bull do that to me. I saw the cow and steer in time, used the tractor and straps got them up but the bull did it when I was gone. Mine were all caused by over centering themselves on uneven ground.

Had a heifer calf born friday with no tail. Has a conformation issue with her bag legs as well, but totally stunned me that she didn't have a tail. This is the 5th calf out of this cow for me and all her other calves were fine. Anyone else ever have a calf without a tail?

Nice looking cattle. Do you ever second guess whether to tag a calf or not on the cows with horns? I have culled my more aggressive cows out but even with that I think I would second guess myself if I had horns on any.
