I agree completely. I am trying to build my herd from within and I feel as long as they are fed well before they calf there is no excuse to not breed back. It hurts to sell them after one calf but to weed out the marginal fertility females it is what needs to be done. Just my opinion. Only...

I can attest to this. I went to a bull sale last Friday that had two full brothers with really good calving ease epds. The one with a 76# birthweight brought $12000. I bought his full brother for $5750. He had an 89# BW.

Being an ET calf y0u don't get an accurate maternal production. Most ET programs that I have seen use bigger, heavier milking cows as recips.

You also have to take into consideration if the calf was an ET calf that can greatly affect individual performance.

Another thing that I think makes a lot of difference in calving heifers is how much exercise they are getting before calving. If the are stuck in a small lot for extended periods they seem to have far more calving problems than if they are active and walking a lot until right before calving...

Location also plays a large role imo. In our country with substantial cold and snow most years the cows would lose too much condition and the heifers wouldn't make target weight on cow feed alone, Just my thought.

We have a couple of the Allflex repeaters. I prefer the 25cc ones for meds that use 2cc and the 50cc for the 5cc meds. Seem a little more accurate. Just my opinion.
