    On the brighter side.....

Our county judge has ended the ban on barbecuing that has been in effect for several months. Don't know what happened, but the burn ban is still in effect. Maybe a lot of pressure from the barbecuing public. It was really hard on the fundraisers around here. :tiphat:

    Cattle prices still holding

Went over yestiddy and observed the sale in Giddings for a little while. Cow prices seemed to be about 20 cents a pound. Saw some go through for 3 to 5 cents. Haven't got my check yet--sold 5 cows and 2 heifers. Should be at least 8 or 9 hundred bucks, I think. At least, I hope it...

    Bombproof Kid Horses

Regarding people who sell broncs as kid horses----------Is it possible to dope a horse for a 3 or 4 day duration? Horses in question were calm, responsive rides on Wednesday and totally berserk on Sunday.

    Quick-attach for loaders

I've been wanting to convert my loader to quick attach for the different tools like bucket, forks, and hay spear. Mostly my google investigation has been pretty fruitless. It usually comes back around to "skid-steer attachments". Is the system used on farm tractors the same as is used on...

    Bull behavior

I'm not exactly a beginner, but I am new to having a registered brahma bull on the place. In spite of being supersized (compared to the angus cows), he seems very calm and peaceful. When I put out hay and such, he just stands about 5 feet away and stares at me with a curious look on his face...

    Fence wire

High tensile 12 ga. wire seems to be the wire of choice for electric fencing. Being as it's such a PITA to work with, what is the advantage to using it over using 14 ga. galvanized steel wire? I've been using the 14 ga. for a long time and have not had any trouble with it as far as breaking...

    Brisket II

Has anyone ever done a scientific study to find which type of brisket is less expensive to cook? I'm not sure of the price per pound difference, but I think it's something like 50 cents a pound maybe, with market trimmed being the more expensive. How do you come out if you use the cheaper per...

    Hearings

Anybody watch any of the "congressional hearing" with BP's Hayward? What a bunch of morons. And we elected them. It was like a tag team wrestling match, with the competition being to see who could low-rate the poor guy the worst. He showed a lot more restraint and class than I would have...

    Cows showing no heat cycle

My neighbor has 5 cows that had calves last spring. He has no bull, so they are not bred. Yet, they have never shown any signs of any heat cycles. He asked me what I thought. Best answer that I could come up with was "beats me!". The cows are well-nourished and in good shape. Anybody have...

    Plane crash

Just heard on the electric radio that the widow of the IRS employee that died in the crash is suing the widow of the pilot, because she didn't warn anybody that her husband was unbalanced. I'm not sure the poor guy is even in the ground yet. Of course, it's not the money. She just...

    Rats !

Rats have eaten the insulation off of a lot of the wires in my JD 6300. Even chewed some of the wires completely in two. Got it in the shop now getting it fixed. Does anyone have a solution for the rat problem? Or, even any ideas for keeping them out of the tractor? It stays parked in a...

    Braford bull

If you was to use a F-1 brahma x hereford bull on purebred black angus cows, what would the result look like? All black and polled?? I have not been able to find a definitive answer.........

    Crossbreeding

If I was to want to crossbreed using black angus and polled hereford, would I want hereford cows and angus bull, or angus cows and hereford bull?

    Governor candidate

If I said it, it would be against the rules of the board. So obviously, being a law abiding citizen, I won't say it. :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :tiphat:

    Not responding

Anybody else having problems with this board just locking up (not responding)? My task manager is being overworked. :lol2:

    Fence charger grounding

I just set up a 110v charger on some fence because the solar chargers weren't getting the message across. It's in a metal pole-type barn built with 8 posts (3" square tubing) set in the ground, in concrete. I grounded it by putting a screw in one of the posts and hooking the ground wire from...

    Container gardening

Anybody doing any container gardening? Particularly using those protein and mineral tubs as containers? We've got 10 or 12 of them, and are thinking about trying them for planters. Never have seen them recommended--wonder if there's a reason for that.

    I remember...

...back when people running businesses large and small generally were honest, moral, and ethical people, and politicians were the only scumbags we had to deal with. Wonder how we got so far away from that ?

    Sale barn, again

Sold 4 old cows today, black angus, 16 years old. The average weight was 1323#, average per pound was 37.18, and they averaged $492 per head. About $150 each more than I expected. :o Needless to say, I'm thrilled (and surprised). :cboy:
