whats the best grass for...........

Help Support CattleToday:

If by sage your referring to broomsedge, it isn;t just a ph problem. If you clip it as it starts to head out, eventually you'll get rid of it if you have a decent stand of some other type of grass. Hard to beat the basic KY31 and clover for pasture in the fescue belt.

Seein' how you live in Crazy County :secret: Oops, I mean Casey County, what kind of soil do you have? Sandstone/shale, Red clay, blue clay, or silt loam? Will you use it for hay or pasture?

There are alot of good grasses that will work for your area. Orchardgrass, Timothy, and Bluegrass will work. Heavy stocking and rotational grazing should take care of the broomsedge issue. I'm not a big fan of fescue, but I'll use it when it's there. I just don't see a point in planting any. If you don't have any, you probably will eventually. If I did any seeding, I would be overseeding with legumes. Frost seeding of clovers and other legumes will make any pasture better.
