I love the good old commercial cows that are heinz 57 - easy keeping, easy calving, good mothers that can raise a soggy calf.
Seriously though, every breed has it's merits, and I've got good representatives from the following breeds: black angus, red angus, charolais, simmental, saler (yes, believe it or not, my red salers cows have been wonderful), shorthorn, pinzguar, and even a bit of longhorn. The only breed I've tried that I've had zero luck with so far is the Limousin... no offense, I'm sure there are some wonderful Limo cows out there( a neighbour of mine uses Limo bulls and he has a nice set of calves, works for him), I just haven't had one on the place yet.
To each their own... as long as the buyers here up north still love their soggy blonde and buckskin calves and don't knock the silvers too hard, I'll keep using the Char bulls to keep a uniform calf crop.
Take care.
