What is this weed??

Help Support CattleToday:

If you cut the stem on the stuff in his pic, it will leak white thick liquid that looks just like milk. It is probably why everyone around here calls it what they do. It may not be the real McCoy.

We are in the migration route of the monarch butterfly. Some times in the fall we will see thousands of them all day long. Supposedly that weed is a big monarch magnet.

I enjoy the migrations. Probably mowed too much of that weed in my life time already.

Doesn;t look like our milkweed either. But since there are 140 or so different milkweed plants it isn;t surprising

Looks like a form of milkweed, alright. It's a variety called "spider milkweed," sometimes "antelope horns," and every now and then, "spider antelope." It's growing all over the place. But 2, 4-d kills it well.

Never heard "spider" but that makes sense. The vines sprawl out in legs like a spider.
