We're looking at updating our vaccination protocol now that we are raising show calves.

Here's what we are doing...

Calves @ Castration (2-3mo.) and Weaning
-Dewormer
-Ultra Choice 8
-Virashield 6

Cows Over 2+ @ 30 days prior to breeding
-Vibrio-Leptoferm 5
-Ultra Choice 8
-Deworm
-Virashield 6
-Mulitmin (at the recommendation of our vet for the area)

Cows @Weaning
-Deworm

Cows Mid-Summer
-Deworm

Comments/suggestions? The above protocol was a pretty basic system suggested by our vet. We're interested in addditional protection we can provide value added calves and cows that will be in an AI program.

I would recommend a modified live virus respiratory vaccine. I like Bovi-Sheild Gold VL5.

Sizmic

That was my opinion (based on being swayed by advertisements) but our vet specifically recommended going with a killed vaccine. He said he recommends it because with the modified live, you are always going to get a few animals who end up sick.

I'm a bit ignorant as to the differences.

those animals that get sick from modified live vaccines are in what i understand possible PI animals. They could already be carriers of the respiratory diseases.
