I'm putting up some barbed wire, and I want to put a 5 foot metal gate in a 1/4 mile stretch. Can I just put in two 2 7/8 posts 5 1/2 feet apart and tie them together at the top with a pipe?this would be cheaper than doing a brace on each side, but it seems like it would hold fine. Thoughts? Opinions?
I could also weld in a pipe at the bottom if needed. Like below (if it shows up right)

same way a bow gate works...

Right. It wasn't the gate support that I am concerned about, it was just whether putting on a single tied in post would be ok.

I might want to weld in an angle brace at each top corner to keep it square in case the fence gets tighter on one side than the other.

I have several with just barbed wire at the top. Been in place many years. I occasionally have to tighten the wire.
