I am looking for a simple pasturegrass that is simple to plant and needs little or no care , I have looked in to ryegrass called pasture brand rye grass , it claims grat production I am wondering if anyone has had experience with it or knows a better answer. I am pasturing cows with calves april thru december.

I would check in with your county extension agent as to what to use. Different varieites of rye grass work better in colder climates like yours and some are more suseptible to rust.

Two problems with ryegrass. The first is when it gets hot ryegrass quits growing. Even here on the northwest coast with our mild summers ryegrass shuts down. It doesn't matter how much water you pour on it, the heat is what stops it. The second problem with being a trouble free pasture is that isn't very long lived. Almost any grass will out last ryegrass. On the other hand it is easy to establish. I swear you could throw ryegrass seed out on a parking lot and it would sprout and grow.
