I agree that BW's can be too high and cause a lot problems. However, I am skeptical about the advisability of lowering them to extremes.
I've read too many posts from some breeders of other breeds, particularly Angus, where they were complaining about BWs being lowered so low that they were breeding the calving ease completely out of the cattle - pelvic areas becoming too small, etc.
My philosophy is if you're not having to pull calves , you don't have a BW problem, regardless of what the EPDs might say. And, if you're having to pull calves, and the bull's BW EPD is way below average(reference P606 - when he was promoted as a calving ease bull), you've got a problem - regardless of what the EPDs say.
