Where is our OP located? Just because something is docked in one area does not mean it is all over.
For the best heterosis (crossbred) affect, Continental breed should be used on a British (RA) breed. The Simmental breed is easier calving than the Hereford or Charolais (based on MARC research).

Jeanne when was this research done? On mature cows we have never had any trouble. And our friends using a Simmi on top reg Angus cows isn't seeing any heavier calves than our Angus and Baldies. Last month we both sold some of the age.His were 14 lbs heavier and ours brought ten dollars a hundred more. Ours were straight Angus sired by walking sires. His sired by top AI Simmi sires.

elkwc - I can't find the research - but, modern Angus has the heaviest mature cow (I listed this research on a thread, maybe last month) - Hereford bulls are harder calving than Simmental - and there is tons of research showing best heterosis is Continental x British. Granted the modern Continentals are not as drastic a cross as they used to be, because we have modernized their muscle pattern on all the breeds so that they are not the big bubble butt/heavy muscled they used to be.
Your home comparison is fact - but too small a scale to prove anything. Your walking Angus bulls may have been superior to your neighbors Simmental bulls (AI or walking). And, did he use PB or % Simmentals?
Best heterosis is getting genetics as far away from each other - Bos Taurus x Bos Indicus is the BEST heterosis. But, discounts on the offspring may offset the benefits???
