I inherited a mostly angus heard a few years. I have no records except my dads memory which ain't what it used to be. My question is can DNA testing catch me up about the make up of these cows. For example will it tell me their % angus and % something else. And in your experience has the information been worth the cost? Would it give me information that could help in culling decisions?

DNA testing can tell you wither an animal carries the black gene. I have never had this done so cannot tell you how the results are given. As far as the rest of the DNA testing is concerned I doubt that it would be feasible. It is generally only used by seed stock producers. The testing only gives you the potential for the traits selected. Unless you have some special breeding program needing to obtain these results, I seriously doubt they would be of any benefit to you.
