Pedigree link is not working for me HS.

In the Angus breed though, I like the Wye Angus cattle, they are bred right. I have a good friend with a moderate sized registered Angus program. I was telling her i felt they were the best bred Angus out there. Coincedentally, she perked up and told me she had an old Wye bred cow years back. She said it was the best producing cow she ever had. I'm kind of scratching my head and biting my tounge thinking " uggggh isn't that telling you something. Maybe you should have linebred on her".

Please shoot back with a working pedigree link.

I've bred the identical pattern before with dogs for a buyer in Georgia to whom I shipped a bred matron. This was my recommendation to him. He has been very pleased with the result.

75% on the sire (Eros 1702) back to a bro-sis bred dam (1706). It is a tight breeding, but if the quality is there they are probably starting to get a fairly clean and predictable gene pool, and getting things to go the right direction. Inbreeding works against you for awhile, and then when the genetic purification of major underlying faults is accomplished, inbreeding begins to work for you. It just takes a little tenacity to stick with it and see beyond the here and now.

I'm not big into Angus. I had heard the name Shoshone, but admittedly was not aware that they were a linebred herd. However, it appears that he founded his herd upon the Wye program. Look up #10017082 as an example. Here we see a nicely linebred herd built upon the foundation of a linebred herd. You can't get too close with proper selectivity. Mr. Leonhardt is obviously a bright man who "gets it".

MY..that was a very good artical for a future cattle linebreeder like me. It was very educational. On top of that, their herd was founded upon the Wye herd which you previously mentioned. Do you know of any other cattle outfits like the Wye outfit that are specializing in linebreeding?

In the Angus breed Touchstone Angus have also a linebred herd. I find it interesting that both Shoshone and Touchstone are in Wyoming. Perhaps there are some equal to it, but there is no country more demanding on cattle to perform than Wyoming. My 2nd Great Grandfather was an early settler-rancher in the Evanston area. That country will seperate the men from the boys and the real cattle from the pretenders. :cboy:
