Anyone from Ohio Co, Ky? Got a friend looking to possibly transfer there for work this summer. Husband, wife, and a 12 year old daughter. They are visiting there this weekend. What's there? Good and bad.

My aunt lives just to the north in Owensboro. It's a nice little city. Never heard any bad about Ohio Co, they're on the eastern fringe of our Tri State area. I'm really too far away to give a weighted opinion though.

Thanks. It looks good. Plus it's close enough to bigger cities if they want to go there.

Not much in Ohio county. It's pretty wide open space with mostly deer leases and Farm ground. Pretty low pop and they might have gas station if you don't blink. I've just driven through bout an hour 15 minutes west of me.

Thanks. That's the kind of thing I want to know about.

That's Beaver Dam & Hartford. Small towns. Pretty nice county as far as I know. Good Cattle Country. The guy who AI's my cattle is from Hartford. He told me its a good drive to the nearest Large Animal Vet.

I live 10 minutes from the county line. Some parts are nice but like every other place there's lots of meth and thieves. Not a lot of jobs other then a few lower paying manufacturing jobs. I knew several people who would drive to bowling green Owensboro or where I live to Hancock county for jobs

For what it's worth, crime per capita is 55% lower in Ohio county Kentucky than the national average and 18% lower than the Kentucky state average.
So you could easily pick worse places to raise a family.

True. I just know everyday on Facebook someone has had something stolen. For the most part a lot of good people in this area

Meth is the plague of rural areas, at least here in the midwest. The boom hit hard here in the early 2000's, every old house in the country mysteriously burned down and the fertilizer plants were most popular from12-4 in the morning. Still a lot get busted for it here, but not as bad as it once was.

Kenny, I'll be going through Ohio Co within a couple weeks on a bull run, I'll let you know if I find anything interesting.

Jobs for them is not an issue. He is retired military and 100% disabled. She is military also and 60% but still working. She can transfer from Eastern ky and keep her current job. They are checking it out today. I would bet tonight takes them to a casino on the Ohio River.

It looks like it's not too far from Owensboro Ky. I don't know anything about Ohio County in particular, other than seeing the county line sign passing through when we would go to Owensboro to visit family. Owensboro is a fairly big city and has a lot of restaurants. We always liked to eat at a barbecue place while there, as the area is famous for them and in particular it's barbecue mutton, but they serve beef, pork and chicken too. Old Hickory Barbecue is in my opinion the best barbecue there, followed by The Moonlite as a close second. Moonlite has a big buffet with lots of options and is pretty good.

That sounds great. Never had barbecue mutton.

I like mutton and usually get it when there. The only thing is that if you happen to get a hunk of sheep fat, it can ruin your day lol.
I've heard that there is more mutton consumed in western Ky than anywhere else in the US.

I travel I-64 coming from St Louis to Louisville. How far south is Owensboro?

Aunt says Old Hickory is where the locals eat. Moonlite is for the tourists lol.

I'll second the mutton. Love it!
