I broke open two new oat fields this year. Pretty much blown my fertilizer budget getting them right.
Yesterday I tilled in a field of hybrid Sudan I've been using for several years.
P&k should be good. The Sudan was well fertilized and gave a cutting of hay early after which it was fertilized again.
Then grazed all summer. Usually it gets grazed down to the dirt. This year with the rain i still had 12" of plant that I turned in. Can I expect to get some benefit from this.... maybe hold back on the n a bit.

12 inches isn't a whole lot of biomass as it's probably a lot thinner stand now than early in the season. It's going to add some organic material for sure, but initially it's going to tie up some nitrogen as it decomposes it back into the soil. Not so much nitrogen benefit now as that comes latter.
