I saw this show on TLC the other night. I guess this guy is married to one woman, common law with the next and is trying to bring a third wife into the fold. I think if it was me, I'd be afraid they'd gang up on me. How common is this in the US? I guess I've heard of the Mormons before and I know of a few guys that had a wife and a girlfriend at the same time, but usually the wife didn't know about the girlfriend and they certainly weren't living under the same roof. Anyway, just curious.

Mormans arn't too common and most of them are monogomous. the polygomists usually live in Utah.(sounds wierd but its true) the really strict mormans live there

Mormon chuches can be found in nearly any medium to large community. It just happens that "headquarters" is in Utah.

True for the most part. Called Jack Mormons they have pretty much isolated themselves along the Utah/ Arizona border. That isolation has helped protect them from prosecution by the law and the church.

The LDS church is a major force from southern Idaho thru Utah, Arizona and into Mexico where many fled to avoid early persecution by outsiders. Many married into Mexican families and most became very prosperous. Many large ranches in northern Mexico have Mormoon links. The second largest Temple is in Mesa Az which was originally settled by Mormons. East of a line from Flagstaff to Pheonix if you are dealing with a rancher there is a very good chance you are dealing with a Mormon.

The church banned polygomy long before there was a law against it. LDS doctrine forbids an adult woman to live in the house of a man not her father or husband. Old Joe Smith created the proclamation allowing multiple marriages most to justify his fooling around. But then he also created the proclamation allowing himself to sell whiskey.Z

There is a book out, "Under The Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer. Interesting reading. It took me awhile to get through it because some of the chapters were totally disgusting. It is true, very well researched and about how the Mormon religion came about and polygamism. You can probably get through Barnes and Noble through the internet. I highly recommend reading this book, it's like "Everything you wanted to know about Mormons they won't tell you about".

How about Colorado City?

If you're talking about the one in Az. I can find it on a map and I know there was some kind of s____ storm there years ago. The saints that I knew when I lived in Az and Utah didn't dicuss it. It's in the region I was talking about but happens to be on the Az side of the line. I don't think Az cares much one way or the other if they are there or not.Z

I believe its in Utah.

Brigham Young when he took the mormans to Utah upheld polygamy. Joseph Smith was dead by then.

Mormons are pretty common in this area, as they are in Idaho and Utah. They now have nothing to do with polygamy or the fundamentalist groups that still practice polygamy. As noted is the recent news of the fundamentalist that set up marriges and now is in the court system. For the most part they are very good christians and honest people. In fact, they had a huge history in the start up city in the recent past, called Las Vegas. Casino owners hired the mormons to handle their cash because they were so honest. Although, I believe Brigham Young had 56 wives, I may off on the number by a couple.

Go BYU!
