Here's some photos I have collected through time of
various Murray Grey bulls...some more famous than
others. We have used semen of some of these, and
a couple of them we used for live cover. The little one
is shown at about 1 yr old. Some of the old photos
are not true as to color; much too yellowish.

That one(2d to last) is Balmoral Elation, the first live
Murray Grey bull imported into the usa. Quite large,
a frame 8. His semen was tested on the GeneStar
system and he was one of the first reported to have a
perfect tenderness and marbling score(i.e. 4 "stars") when
that first came out. He lived in Texas during the early
80's or late 70's.

One and the same. Note the snappy fellow behind the bull....
that's a young Murray Sutherland, the son of the founder
of the breed, Helen Sutherland.

all makes sense now! didn't that bull go on to be gr. champ at sydney in 83 or 84 too?
great to see a good aussie bull struttin his stuff.

Balmoral Elation is in the pedigree of thousands of usa
MG cattle. The little picture beside my name is one of
his granddaughters, LaDon Petunia. She also has a
perfect DNA tenderness score & is one of our donor cows.

last one: Cadella Park Minute Man

We have two ampules of this semen in our tank. Need to
find someone that can still work with ampules! What
a meat-wagon!

The vet probably has some of the stiff infucion pipettes that will work with amps. Te sheath type will work but they're so flexible that they're hard to manipulate.

Yes, he is. I knew I'd seen his picture before - he is one of the sires we AI'd with way back when. I don't know what kind of help you're looking for with the ampules, but Dad could maybe help you as that's all we used back when we were AI'ing. Who are the rest of the bulls?

Excuse me for being ignorant but could you give me a short bio on the Murray Grey cattle. I have heard of them for a long time but just realized I don't know anything about them. Just wodering stuff like where they are from originally, how old of a breed etc...

Very nice looking cattle. I have a buddy in South Texas that still uses some ampules. Could get ya'll connected if you need some help.

Hello Mss Camp & say hello to your dad for me.("the" Ivan
Skinner---do I have that right?)

The bulls are, from the top:
JOPA Elation Power - raised by Jon and Pat Chapman
in W.Va--later sold to Kevin Willis in Ontario

Rockliffe Patron - a 1980's bull from Tazmania, frame
score 5 about 2200 lbs. We are going to use him for
a couple of our donor cows for the June 2d flush

Silverdawn Jumbo - our senior herd sire for many years;
recently passed away :( We have many of his daughters
in our herd---and one bull calf about 7 months old now
that is really showing promise

Gabriel - a son of Jumbo; photo taken at about a year old.
He's working in a commercial herd now

Balmoral Elation - foundation sire for usa

Cadella Park Minute Man - Shirley Stull in Iowa swears that
he produced the best calves of any bull they used. I'd
like to find some more semen on him; likely impossible.

All these bulls have perfect or near perfect DNA tenderness
scores, and Minute Man, Elation Power and Balmoral Elation
also Rockliffe Patron also scored for marbling genes.

Mr. Moogly: Send me a PM with your buddy's phone number
if he doesn't mind...re the ampules.
For a really good history of the breed, take a look at the
pages on the link below. This is on the website of the
son of the founder of the breed, Murray Sutherland.
Murray is in the process of collecting semen from a bull
from his stud called Michalong Yes! and I think it will be
for export to the usa also:

Hi-
What do you know about Tuorong Park igor? That's the only MG semen my Ai guy has in the tank-- would love to know more about him---
he's from the 70's or 80's i think.
Thanks!!

susie

Hi Suzie - I did several different searches and could not
find a thing. Are you sure you are spelling the herd name
(Tuorong Park) correctly? It is probably a stud in
Australia or New Zealand...check the spelling. Under that
spelling there's nothing listed in the Australian data base.

Hi Rick - what size were you talking about? All the bulls
shown in the photos had been used (live) to breed cows.
Balmoral Elation was the only one that I would consider
"over" sized; and his calves generally were in the moderate
range...for example the bull JOPA Elation Power is/was
his son, and he was a frame 5.5---the show picture of
him must have been taken with the photographer laying
flat on the ground. Power's birthweight was in the 70's.
