One of the older cows had a vaginal prolapse last week and had a healthy calf. Vet came in and sewed up the cow. He told me to take the stitch out three weeks later. I was planning on leave the stitches on since I am shipping out the cow after weaning the calf off in the fall. Should I take it out or just leave it on?

Leave them in. They will probably break by the time you wean the calf.

That would be my suggestion too. When we have one with stitches I always keep her away from a bull. I am always afraid that the bull could be injured if she were to cycle.

Cut the suture out. If she does happen to get bred someone will have a big mess next year. Depending on what the vet used as suture, it's possible that it can stay for several years.
