i think a combination of things might help... cut at 60 days, and when it is cooler.. sounds like you are on the right track.. it is tough on a 400 #er in july.. i try to cut mine by 300#'s max if possible.. but i do my own and dont have to cut every one of them at one time... i can get em as i want em..
i have no set rule, i cut em at about any size up to 300# (on occasion one gets bigger, but i try to avoid it). cut some when born. time of year and what i think at the time generally is what i go by.
i had planned to cut more at birth this year, but i just didnt do it.
