Late horn development in angus cross bull

That head says LH to me not Hereford.
Longhorns, Shorthorns, Char and Brahman don’t play by the rules. Char LH and SH don’t play by the color rules.
Longhorns and Brahman don’t play by the horn rules if they carry the African horn gene. There is no absolutes when playing with those four.

This was a first calf heifer last year, her calf was sired by a registered Angus bull and the calf had horns. I will agree with the above post to a point. Angus will knock the horns off of most but their are some cases that they won’t. Sometimes scurs will grow out but unlike a horn they won’t be attached to the skull.

Curious on what you say about attachment.

I have a young heifer that is Hereford by look, she has had what I was thinking were horns from about 2 months, but unlike others, I could get the nub and move it around, about 4 months later, is still the same.

Can a horn be like this and not attach till after 6 months ?

I am far from an expert on this, but from what I have seen scurs usually don’t get over a few inches at the most that I have seen som just little button like growths. We recently weaned a Hereford steer that started showing some kind of horn or scur growth at a couple months of age. At that point they were not attached and then at weaning they still seemed unattached but firmer. They are now about two inches long

I've seen scurs on some older cattle that were as longs as regular horns,,but hang down the sides and flop around..like Carl Childers would say.. shaped sorta like a bananer :cowboy:
