Did you look at ranches?

Lots of cheaper lake cottages here, but the rule is, 'the prettier the view, the more she costs - just like wives'.

But if your looking for a fully furnished 3000 square foot log cabin, on a rock outcropping base sloping into the lake with a boat launch and big beautiful pine trees on 4 acres with a western view of the sunset over the lake, then you likely won't touch it for less than 500k, more like 750k.

I wouldn't want a 3000 sq foot house maybe 1500 to 2000 square foot but the 4 acres sure sounds nice. Don't want to be right next to the neighbor and I know that costs. Some things like Lake Superior coastline in the US you may have 10 acres but only 250 feet of frontage and you do pay a pretty penny!

Aaron don't see much cattle land in Northern Ontario for sale to answer stocker Steves (he lives in Minnesota) question. I see online a beef north initiative that they will sell you crown land with some stipulations but you gotta be a Canadian citizen. They are trying to expand beef production in Northern Ontario.

Cattle land doesn't get advertised much here, no one wants to pay the realtor or pay for advertising, so lots gets sold word of mouth. Quite often that someone knows someone and they take them around the countryside, throwing numbers out at farmers and see who bites.

The Beef North thing is a big joke up here to us Northern producers. Instigated by Southern producers, hoping the province will give them free land and investment money to build million dollar operations in the northern swamp land of Ontario, where basic infrastructure is non-existent. We have a good laugh about the whole scheme at every monthly beef producers meeting as the promises and BS get thicker each time. It's been 2-3 years of talking and nothing concrete has happened yet.

Sounds like the local "Agriculture committee" here.. They've been running their mouths for close to 10 years, received grant after grant, now have started accepting awards too for NO PROGRESS.. They can talk all they want, but in the end, they need the farmers and ranchers on board, and NONE except small market gardens are. Thankfully we're in a different regional district by about a mile.

The lease fee is about the same as the taxes on a small shop in our town. Seems as though if you were willing to live out there, and were good at marketing, you could make money

What kind of cattle does the province recommend for grazing northern swamps?

The realistic answer would be moose. But the province wants you to clear and drain your chunk of free beaver land and make it into top notch pasture field. So I guess the answer is any breed that can produce a $2000 calf as your going to need it to pay the bills.

There is a lot of beaver and tamarack land around Red Lake, MN.. Could move in there with some big footed Highlander F1s and direct sale to white table cloth restaurants!
