I am about to cut my pastures (moderate to heavy weeds) to meet my winter needs. Should I cut an additional 50-75 round bales to sell this fall/winter? I would need to sell for approximately $28+/bale for this to be worth the time and expense. There is a shortage of hay in NE TX but I am not certain that there is a demand for such a late cut with weeds. Your comments are appreciated. Thanks

$28 seems high even in drought for baled up grass and weeds. Did you fertilize this pasture and if so when?

Not fertilized. I bought the place in June but plan to weed and fertilize in Spring.

Can you readily buy baled grass with weeds for < $28 in the area?

Thanks

It would depend on what the weeds are.
In another thread Dun reminded us about the nitrate levels in pigweed.
Around here, right now I'd pay $30 for big rounds of good grass.
And expect to make 50% on it in Jan.
But wouldn't pay anything for baled weeds.

we bought big round bales of bermuda for 27.50 delivered, same as last year, and same as the year before. i was kinda worried about this year with it being so dry, but it was 27.50 we have bought from the same man for several years, and its first come first serve, he puts us on a list for how many we want. this year he didnt make as much as he thought, so we are a few short...
