Getting that time

Hay guy just got around a third of my field baled today…first cutting. We have what looks like at least a week or more of rain coming. My brother in law talked to him and I guess he said the grass is getting too ripe and he is going to start cutting rain or shine. I understand it isn't an ideal situation either way you loom at it but I guess I'd rather have ripe dry hay then rotten moldy hay but that's just me…

My dad use to say better it be standing and growing than cut and molding.

+1. One of our neighbors goes on vacation to keep from being tempted to cut. We are about there ourselves.

We had 4.5+ inches of rain in May, and we are pushing above 5 inches for June with another 2.5 in the forecast for next week. There has been absolutely no windows larger than 2-3 days between heavy rains.

God knows what we need 🙂

It is a standing guarantee that it will rain on our local fireman's carnival... 2nd week of June... Right on schedule Friday eve/Sat... 1.3 inches this year. Wouldn't be the fireman's parade if it didn't rain ... Last year we were thankful to have it after a very dry spring... this year it has just added to the plentiful ground moisture.
Got a window... last week 4 days... this week, started to dry out Friday (yesterday)... cut some yesterday and today. Temps are supposed to soar into the upper 90's - low 100's next 3 days. It'll dry FAST. Rain coming back in by Wed... so will hopefully get this up dry also.
I'm with all of you that would rather have overmature/green coming up through it hay, standing and dry, than wet, cut and molding. We'll wait unless we know that we are going to be able to wrap... and we do not like to wrap much. I would rather supplement through the winter with mature low protein/quality hay than to have them get sick on moldy stuff... or have it catch on fire from being not dry enough.
The saying that anything is better than snowballs is somewhat true..... if it is low quality you can supplement... but they still need some bulk/fiber for their guts to work right. If that is all that you are/can feed, then it is not so good.

Got all of it teddered Saturday and finished up after church Sunday. Blew a cylinder that raises one side of the tedder before I finished. Son called and had a flat on the cab Kubota. He was cutting the field at his house . So got it off and loaded on the trailer to go to the tire store first thing Monday morning. I guess the Lord telling us not to be working on Sunday . Dodged a couple pop up showers both days . If we can't get the tire fixed I'll start raking with the smaller kubota open tractor. After the dew dries off in the morning.

Im having some of the same luck. Blew a brake line on a pickup, side by side wont start, PTO shaft came loose on the bush hog, return fuel line came loose on rake tractor. Time to go fishing.

Must be in the air... or in the water.... Have had the fuel line on the 4600, gravity feed under the tank... stop up the "shut off valve", right where it comes out of the tank... some slimy diesel algae and some little flakes of something... then today the tie rod end on the 4600... popped apart... been getting pretty worn... and I couldn't steer it... had to bring another tractor to rake with... Finished that field... went 3-4 miles to the next field... working on the 5th pass down the field....... and v-rake is drifting wider... hit the lever and hydaulic fluid went spewing out... luckily Tractor Supply had some new long hoses in 1/2 inch... it was 3/8... but got some reducing valves, since they did not have any 3/8 long enough....needed 22 ft long... got a 10 and a 12 and a coupler ..... got them on and went back to raking finally. Finally finished that field.
Son has been mowing a whole bunch of these 2-6 acre places we do... more than I think he should have been; with possible showers Wed aft.... but anyway... he comes to start baling and after about 20 rolls, the baler tire went flat.. he just had them fix it recently... so it was past time to quit.
And the temps soared the last 2 days... hit 90 Sat and 94 today, sun and muggy....

90's and 100 is way hot for here this time of year. Usually only get a few of those days in late July.... Hit 100 on the recording thermometer sending unit when the sun hit it a few minutes ago... it will drop after the sun moves and the leaves shade it... but you go out the door and the sweat pours off you in 5 minutes. NOT our normal....
Hopefully today will go better... for ALL of US.

Crazy weather here. 93 at my house, 9 miles away closer to the lake I have some cows and the temp is 52 over there and windchills of 41°.

So humid here last nights rain hasn't even dried off the concrete even with the sun shining.

Got about 50 rolled today . Hay is still not drying. Combination of ground being so wet , high humidity, and hay being so thick. Reteddered some and were rolling and the baler broke down . Problem with the wrapper. Tech coming in the morning. So hopefully we'll be back up and running.

Compare the temps from the 1930's we are no where close to the 30's strange but people saying climate change but never show charts of the past temps.

newest gov. reports show the earths temp actually cooling the last 10 years. you probably didn't see it.. they are trying to keep it hush hush

We've had 2 good days and see the light at the end of the tunnel and hope it's not a train . Finishing the last field at my sons with my cousins 5x6 jd baler . Donald my helper is finishing our last rented field with our baler .
