Getting that time

Snuck in about 55 acres so far but not been much better cooperation from the weather here either. It is getting to where we really need to get it done!

We are still a month away at best. The front field we just got the cows off it 2 weeks ago and I have just completed irrigating it. 60 cows had it down real short. I got it good and wet but how fast it will grow now is the question. Cold dry spring has all the grass way behind.
Our forecast is
June maybe an inch
July possibly a inch
August if we get real lucky we will get an inch
September chances of getting an inch get better

Good this the reservoir is full. And there is still a little snow to come down that is way up high.

Have 50 ish acre on the ground right now. Showing about 4 tenths so far with no rain forecasted as of yesterday. Last I checked we weren't supposed to get rain till Tuesday. Now they are calling for rain almost every day next week. Only got 13 bales up today before the rain got me. I hate a weather man with a passion. Only going to be about a 3 weeks behind now. Have about 200 acres ready to be cut but no clue when I will be able to get it mowed without it getting wet.

had a chance a few weeks ago but colder morning and the dew was strong. didn't think it'd work out. now we're getting rain all the time so not sure when things will dry out enough to get out there.

I know the feeling ! Have 10 acres of oats and rye . It needed cut 2-3 weeks ago . Looks to be a salvage job now . Rest of ours is mostly fescue, so it’ll hold a little longer .

Just a thought. With oats and rye if its getting too mature square bale it for straw. Sell it picked up in the field.

Cutting the oats and about the same amount of fescue; 20-24 acres total . Got a little window this week . Oats should bale Monday or Tuesday. Fescue Wednesday. Fescue not super thick , left the cows on it about a week to 10 days too long before I cut them off with an electric fence.

Heads still green , seeds still on . More grass under ; some fescue and some rye . Cows may not eat it . First time planting them . Just rain every 2-3 days if not every day . Hope it doesn't totally quit us in June and July!

If the heads are still green I wouldn't cut it yet. Soft dough stage is what I shoot for.

Left the cows on the fescue field a couple of weeks too long before I got the hot wire up . It’ll be allowed to grow till this fall before they see it again .

On a wheel rake making it wider (ie making the wheels more perpendicular to the direction of travel) the worse it is at raking....

Also the cheap low frame in front V-rakes are just a PITA. Rather rake hay with a pitch fork over a low frame V-rake.

Yes sir ! Widened it out ; one side , both sides . Took a wheel off . Cussed , discussed, kicked it , loved on it . Over 4 hrs to rake 10 acres. Called my son and told him I was buying a new one the next morning. Till I priced them . 😳
I dealt with some of the same things until last year. Hooked up my old New Holland 256 and sold the v-rake.

A new Kuhn , circular rake was around $40 my neighbor told me . He a young man that works at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville and him and his best friend cattle farm on the side ..
