I don't think so just open the valve and wave the torch in front of it. If it doesn't go boom youll be OK
 
Dig a hole in the ground, take a piece of metal (for a lid to the hole) and cut a hole in center to put your weed torch in. put charcoal in bottom of hole and then set your pot on top of that. light it up and it should get to about 1500 deg pretty quick .
 
as long as only the tip of the torch is inserted into the hole you can slide the lid over or prop one corner so it can draw.
