Face to face with a big black bear

Help Support CattleToday:

As Alan said it was just a little ole black bear. I have been fishing in a stream with 5 black bears also fishing within a hundred yards both up and downstream of me. No big deal. I was inbetween a a sow and her young cubs once..... that was interesting but she didn't try to eat me. I have hit them with rocks to get them out of the road. Chased them out of camp with a sling shot. They are pretty much harmless critters. I have met a lot of cows that were more dangerous than a black bear.
I would be much more concern with the snakes hiding in the grass or a gator looking for a meal.
I have worked in Grizzly country. They are an entirely different animal. In Grizzly country you pack a small cannon at all times.

This might be a dumb question, but does florida have hunting seasons for bear ?

There is supposed to be a limited season in select areas next year. Not my area though.

Melking, what side of Babcock are you on? We actually drive to the south side (River Rd) and come in from there. We have 3000 acres leased.
