Big trees

Here is one that has been a few years since it was cut. They had strong mules and big sawmills then.

The biggest cedar and a number of others I fell were like that picture with the young lady standing inside it. Those burnt out old cedars will certainly hold your attention when cutting them. I wish I had taken more pictures back them.

The biggest cedar I fell was over 13 feet on the butt. The biggest Doug Fir was 10' 8" inside the bark and I think it had about 12 inches of bark. Where are you at? Those are some pretty nice sticks.
We were on Vancouver Island, this little park is called Cathedral Grove, north of Nanaimo.

I'd love to see those big trees some day. I guess the largest we have are pecan trees, and they probably don't get much over about Ø36".

The wife and I in front of a big fir (about 9 foot) in the big tree grove Lake Quinault. If I had taken the picture looking from the right side there are three of these big pumpkins lined up side by side. The summer of 2015 before we got married. I took her on a date to see big trees. Isn't that romantic?

Love it.

How old ya reckon trees like that are?
Or were?

I can't imagine a cedar that big!
They sure didn't pay me to stand there and count rings. I have seen some displayed where they did count. 1,500 years give or take a century or two.
I have seen or even set chokers on bigger ones. Western Red Cedar get pretty big in the right environment.

This was one of the biggest around here, about 4ft at the base.. HORRIBLY twisted unfortunately, about a 1/4 turn ever 12 feet.. LOTS of firewood in there
Wish it hadn't fallen on the irrigation line though.. and the root ball threw gravel into the bark all the way up the tree, lot of chain sharpening

We also have what's probably the biggest willow in the province, planted in the 1930's, it's got about a 5 ft trunk.. this is the best pic of it I can find just now
