Face to face with a big black bear

Was running new electric fence on the lease today. The neighbor across the street warned us that a family of bears had moved in. Momma, poppa, and a teenage baby. Saw momma first, made some noise and ran her off after pointer her out to my wife. So I went back to my truck, put my sidearm on, and made my way back to where I left Jessie and Codey. Then we see a large male black bear moving right at us. He got to 50 yards before he figured out he better climb the nearest tree. He is every bit of 350 lbs. the tree he's in is a huge old oak. I snuck up to 30 yds and snapped this picture. All the while he chuffing and grunting at me. We decided to go work on the other end of the property and let him leave the area. By the time we got back that way he was gone. Interesting day for sure.

Glad it worked out for ya tho. AFAIK, we don't have any bear here, tho some of the old timers say different.
CB might have a different take on it tho since he lives east of me a good ways.

I've only seen a handful of black bears in the wild but never 2 in one day and never up close and personal like that

in ocala riding the quads we rode up on one sleeping right in the middle of the trail. he woke up as we got about 50 yds away maybe..Gage was only 3 so i was carrying him cuz he had fallen alseep. we couldnt turn around and i was wondering what i might hafta do if he came at us..he finally just got up and walked away bout 10 mins of watchin him. was very cool since it worked out ok.
ive never seen one near where we live tho. id be real careful round them corey...ya just never know. theyre faster than cows!

They're fast for sure. He made he 29 yds tot he tree and up it in about 2 seconds.
Jo, its was a coin toss who i wouldd have to stop first, the bear or codey. That boy has some real good eyes though. He saw both bears first.

Years ago I was Surveying in a State Forest not far from your place Hook. Eating lunch sitting on a log, I notice all these pine shavings scattered abouts around the base of the tree next to me and I looked up and saw where a bear scratched. For the rest of the day I never felt like I was alone, felt like I was being watched. Never seen the bear of course, but seen a lot of sign all over the forest. You guys have a lot more bear than we do.

We have had a few in the Thicket now they are restocking them.
What in the he(( goe's through the TPWD mind sometimes is a mystery.
That is a 300 pound coon.
