Drought declared over........

We have been in a mild drought for the last 2 years. This is the beginning of the third. The cumulative effects are adding up now.
But seasonally this area sees it wet season start by the end of may.
 
Yep. This wind isn't helping at all. Im hoping that keeping my stocking rate one third of what it could be that we will stay in the black.
 
thats funny..im culling and shipping steers instead of keepin em back..but the prices are high so it aint too bad

i figure with half the usual numbers that i can last longer....

sounds just like the texas thing now dont it
 
We sold some last feb and I'm glad we did. Pretty bad when I'm thinking of moving to Texas to get some rain.
 
with what yall maybe looking at you will be smart to sale the calves an cull your old an prob cows.an then start looking at your other cows if it gets worse.
 
The lord blessed us with a much needed rain today. I'm gonna sale all my calves that are 300+ and 2 cull cows next week.

No milk if the grass isn't growing. Rye is dying off now. Cracks are spreading in the ground and no rain predicted for the next 10 days. On a positive note, most of the farmers/ranchers around this area got enough rain early on to produce a very good hay crop to store away. How long that stock pile lasts remains to be seen.
 
well we got hay now so ..so far so good. we aintgotta worry bout crakcs in the grnd round here tho..all i got is sugar sand....w/o 4 wheel drive yer doomed at my place
 
It started raining about 4 yesterday afternoon and its still raining!!! I'm praying you north Florida and Georgia boys get some of this.
 
CW I'am glad you got some rain. Looks like there's a chance for us, but at this point I just don't know. We been selling a load a week and I have another load picked out for next week already. I did plant 10ac. of tiff quick bahaia this week, and sure glad I had a cab on the tractor.
 
That's pretty brave plantin that high dollar seed. I put down t9 back in the beginning of march. Hasn't down squat with no rain. What soft seed that did pop up is dried up. I'm back to irrigating the main field just do it doesn't turn back to sand.
 
Well HL I was waiting for a rain to plant after but it never came. So I got to thinking it's gotta rain sooner than later. But I think I was wrong again.
My Dad use to tell me no guts no glory, and you want to be the news not hear the news. Worked good for fishing, not so good farming yet.
The rain has faded off the radar, mabe next time.
 
Maybe when the sun comes out the rain will pop back up. We were really blessed yesterday and today. Rained 24 hours straight.
