An on line map shows the fires in eastern Oregon. I counted 51 different active fires. The biggest listed 220,000 acres. There is 2 that are over 100,000 acres. I tried to count the listed acres but there are just too many little flames on the map. There has to be over 800,000 acres on fire right now. The Fox fire was 200 acres. Our crew fought it Thursday night and Friday morning. They had it contained and controlled. They left BLM to mop up. It got away from BLM Friday afternoon. It is up to over 7,000 acres now. Back around 5:30 the smoke cleared enough that I could see the smoke coming up from the Fox fire. The way that smoke was billowing up you could tell that fire was on the run. 100 degrees, 11% humidity. and a 15-20 mph wind it has turned into an animal you don't want to be in front of.
 
There are a number web sites that will show the fires. I prefer the Northwest Interagency Coordination center. They have better maps. The maps are kept pretty current. Their fire information might be slightly out dated because it is only up dated once a day. It still says the Fox fire is 200 acres. Looking at the map and comparing the size to the Powder River fire which is 21,000 acres the Fox fire is somewhere around 15,000 acres. Can sure tell which way the wind was blowing yesterday. It ran north along the Snake River for over 10 miles yesterday.

There is a line of fires over in central Oregon. A lot of them have joined up. There is only a couple of breaks between them left. It works out to 80 miles from south to north of almost continuous fire. We need a break in this weather. A lot of this will burn until the snow flies.
 
Good time to be a fire fighter in the Northwest. You want have to travel far to the next job. Poor people are having it rough, and I hope they can get a lot of rain ASAP..

That is a deep thought. I was listening to this about 2am this morning and had a similar thought.

One of the guys I trained has been on a fire in Utah for 10 days. He said the fire has been out several days but it took him 3 days to get assigned to another fire. He got news this morning that he is going to a fire in Minden, Nevada.
