Three AM and the dogs are raising heII in the pasture by the house. Stuck my hed out the door and hollered...no response, they were really going at it with something. Coyotes? Nope the dogs run them. So I got the handy dandy 10M candle power hand held illumination device and headed out to see what was going on. Darn dogs had their first encounter with a procupine.
The pup only had a few quills but Susie's dog, the old springer, looked like a Amish celery farmer. Took better part of two hours to pull all the quills out of the darn mutt.
Sure hope that he learned his lesson. It was the first one of the critters that we've seen on the place. DMc

hope both dogs are OK, no infection from the spines, mine had a hedgehog and she was riddled with fleas after, put her through a mild solution of sheep dip did the trick, she never went near one again.
