You can see there that several of them aren't wearing an overabundance of compressing undergarments, by the late 1870s the desired compression point of the corset became the natural waistline and subsequently shape by padding became more prominent. They may or may not have them on, but you can look at the contour of their upper and middle backs in relation to their shoulders and tell that they were naturally more petite of waist than many are now. Not surprising, taking all things into account.
