I am located in the heart of New England. Rhode Island to be exact. Is there anyone on this board near me. YOu guys down south and in Texas are always asking each other where you are located. I think that is great.
Is there anyone in my area. If anyone dares to travel up North please get in touch with me so we can get together and talk cows.

I've wondered about that myself lancemart. it does seem as you are up there by yourself. With the growing popularity of the mini's surely you got them around you?

Hard to think of that part of the US having any room left for cattle.

With the price of land these days -- there will be no farms left in the Northeast very shortly. The local government is trying to buy development rights from farmers. I usually go to the farm bureau meetings. They always ask the question "anyone interested in selling their development rights" It seems like an easy program to participate in, but then you find out they are not interested in your farm. Why they ask I don't know.

I've had to go there a few times. It is hard for me to imagine farms there now. You can barely park a compact car anywhere. How in the world could you drag a trailer load of cattle or hay? Toll booths every half mile and all (NorthEast)

I'd go nuts if I had to live there. Maybe it would be different if I grew up that way. This area I am currently living in is way to crowded for me now.

If you have a farm you must be the "Last of the Mohicans"

If the company I work for ever makes me go up there again, I'll PM you. Maybe you can lease me a tent spot. That would be better than the Hilton.

Let me know if it happens, tents are probably against the towns ordinance ruling. That is another thing, more and more ordinances regarding zoning are approved by the town council. When will the government stop medling.

there may be alot less farms here in Texas too, i cant tell ya
many real estate signs i have seen up in corn fields, but there is more than i would like to see, i guess the years of drought is taking its toll on the farmers, but since there isnt being any more land being made, if it were mine, i would try and do about anything i had to do to hold on to it, and not see it sold to developers to be subdivided, but to each his own, ya make chioces that ya have too, not cuz ya like em, so before long we may have trouble dragging stock trailers, and hay through some areas too, but i hope not..

How does that song go, " Dads not selling the farm" or something like that.

New York still has plenty of farmland.

My town is small enough that we don't have a single traffic light in it.
In fact, of the 5 towns that border my town, only one of them has a traffic light either  .

I think New York still ranks right up near the top of the list in dairy production and apples.

There's like 23 million or so people in New York State. 18 million of them live in "that city". It's the reason we have people like Hillary Clintn running our state.
It sure wasn't the New York farmers who elected her.

Get away from the major cities in New York and there's lots of country left, it's a pretty big state.

There used to be a farmer from Vermont that posted pretty regularly.. haven't seen him for awhile though. A BEAUTIFUL part of the country by the way! And a lot more farms up there then I would have ever thought.

Saltydawg...

We came down through New York into PA from Niagara Falls. I'd happily live there if all my kin wasn't in the midwest. Beautiful state!

That's exactly the name I was thinking of - thought that cowcop was a "he" though! Anyhow, I remember well her posts & pics of breached calves hanging out of her neighbor's Herfords. Miss her posts, seems that there's close to parity on these boards when it comes to he sexes (not what I expected when I first arrived).

Now Backhoe not all states up here have toll booths in CT there are none and I can park my truck and trailer just fine. Lancemart I am in Southeast CT same town as the Mohegan Sun Casino. There are farms here still but few due to high taxes and such. There is a Dairy farm about 20 minutes from me milking like 700.

Sorry Lancemart nowhere near ya, but I had to add that here in Texas we may not have a choice if the Texas Supreme Court has it's way. The State of Texas is trying to push what they are calling the I-35 Trans Corridor (or something like that) which is basically a toll road they want to build through private property which is mostly farm and ranch land and with the emminent domain laws they don't have to offer Fair Market Value for your property, they can offer you .01 cent and you then have to go to court to prove it's value and then you are out all the court and attorney's fees so you still come up short.

I've also heard that the State of Texas is wanting to sell some of the land which is currently our State Parks and they want to outsource the running of these proposed tolls roads to another Country!

Makes you wonder just what these politicians are thinking! I know it sure isn't what's best for the people.

Are you registered to vote? There's an election coming up, you know.

Thanks for the invite 3MR. Been to OK once. Visited the Cowboy Hall of Fame. I enjoyed my visit there and hope to visit again some day.

However, I'm pretty deeply rooted in mesquite thickets, prickly pear and live oaks and it'd be pretty hard to uproot this country gal from Texas soil.

And yes, I am a registered voter and will surely exercise that privilege in the upcoming elections.
