My baldie heifer recently had her calf. Our bull is a polled hereford. I was expecting the calf to be a baldie, but he is colored like a hereford. My question is will the future calves out of this pair have this color. Was not sure if these 2 will put out the same color every time. This was his 2nd calf. The 1st was a baldie bull calf out of a black angus heifer. We only have 4 cows, 3 black angus and the baldie and the bull so we don't have alot of experience yet in what to expect. Thanks for any input.

Chances are yes, she will continue to have a Hereford looking calve, But take note of the word CHANCE, there are no guarantees of that. but being 1/2 Hereford herself and bred by a Hereford bull the odds are high that it will look like a Hereford

Not sure how you consider a baldy different from colored like a hereford, unless you mean red vs. black. In red vs. black, a red cow to a red bull will always have a red calf. A homozygous black heifer to a red bull will always have a black calf. A heterozygous black heifer (the offspring from a homozygous black cow bred to a red bull) will have a 50% chance of having a black heifer and a 50% chance of having a red heifer. A heterozygous black heifer to a heterozygous black bull has a 75% chance of having a black calf and a 25% chance of having a red calf. Hope that answered your question.

That pretty well sums it up. Doubling on the Hereford generally incrreases the likelyhood of a Hereford marked calf.

You can double, triple or quadruple the Hereford, but if the cow is black, you are going to get black calves %50 of the time.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about the red vs black color. Seems like the black ones bring a little more around here. We sold his 1st calf, ( black with white face ) last week at the auction. He was 5 months old and 410 lbs. He brought $1275. Very happy with the price. Thanks again.

Here's same thing. This cow's mamma was a Black White face and bred to a black Angus. As you can see she had a black baldie. Then this cow was bred to a Hereford bull and this is what I got. B&G

A baldy is colored different than a Hereford, although todays modern multipliers are doing their best to make Herefords look like Baldies :)

A answer to your OP in the form of pictures. The first picture is the cow's calf last year out of the same Hereford bull as the second picture.
