No matter if you like or disike, it was a brilliant marketing ploy.

Yep--and its sold a lot of beef...And the last I knew thats the game we were supposed to be playing.....It guarantees to the consumer a minimum standard the beef has to be-- no different then Lauras Lean guarantees a standard for that type of meat....

Personally I would take prime/choice CAB over Lauras Leans' dry old steaks any day.....But that is "personal preference"- which is what we should be offering our consumers-not cookie cutter generic beef....

Alright, since you brought it up. It is time for black angus to put their money where their mouth is. The AAA currently has a program called Angus Source with tags or something along that line. If angus was better than the other breeds, they could use this program for the first requirement for all calves receiving the CAB brand. These calves would have to be sired by a registered black angus bull. All calves receiving the CAB brand would be at least 50% black angus.

If they implemented this program for CAB, AAA could then show that they do not need other breeds, and that they are better. The funny thing is they could change the requirements tomorrow and put all of the other breeds to shame, yet they don't. AAA knows they need the other breeds, they are not better, and they want to continue to deceive the ignorant public. Certified All Breeds.

WHY would they do something like that????
They NEED product. If a black SimmX grades CAB, that is just more product to put on the shelves. Why do you think they added the YG 4s and let in non-black Angus cross calves in the Angus verified program??? They need the product too fill all their contracts. IF we ever get to the point that Angus can qualify for CAB 70-80% of the time, they can then ditch the look alikes, use the Angusure tests, and still be able to meet all their obligations. Until then, finding cattle that will grade is of more importance than truth in advertising.

Personally- I would love the CAB to require proof of 50% angus for the program-- since it already has built up such a market- and since cutting out many of the other breeds and anything not 50% would lower supply that meets the specs, they may have to pay more to get enough product to meet the demand...

Incidentally I raise predominately angus--both commercial and registered... ;-)
