BW corelation to WW

Have you seen any frame size increase through keeping the larger, faster growing heifers? Is your birthweight creeping up?
Is your calving in a pretty tight window or is it strung out over several months?

While I realize that your questions were addressed to Randi, I wanted to throw in a few cents.

BW has no correlation to frame size. As I mentioned in the thread from a few months back, I tried lower BW animals for a brief time and found my frame size creeping up because I'd used a bigger FS bull. Currently, my frame sizes are moving down, while my birthweights remain constant, as I've chosen smaller framed bulls.

As far as creep goes, BW is the same as any other genetic trait. You just have to manage it. Don't keep higher BW animals than your target, and you won't see any creep at all.

My own calving is tight. I average high 90s in 60 days.

There are more advantages to high BW animals as well, besides a higher ADG. Higher BW animals typically mature faster. This means summer born heifers will be ready for breeding earlier, should a buyer want a different calving schedule. Ditto the bulls.
