From this info its looks like the Yellows and Blacks bring the most at Sell Barn here, i,am sure its somewhat different it other areas.

Not surprising that the yellow and yellow white faces and black white faces outperform the straight blacks. All based on consistency like I stated awhile back in another thread. Its the same here BTW.

Ah, there's nothing there about "performance." Only the price difference.

The Angus Association has been tracking sale barn premiums for years:

Why else would they pay more for them?

"performance" in the terms I stated mean calf prices at the sale barn. I knew the Angus mafia would get butt hurt over it. I'll take my yellow calves and enjoy what I get for 'em and you can do what you want, how about that ?

Sounds like a deal I can live with.

There,s one thing that really stands out, the price of Reds, right on the bottom.
A friend of mind runs a herd of Red Limousin an will replace his Red Limi. bull with a Charolais our Angus. His sell barn checks should start to look better.

I would like to see that repeated elsewhere. I am not dogging breeding Angus bulls on Hereford cows (been there, done that and was pretty satisfied doing it); but if Charolais x Hereford is going to be the price premium leader per lb.....9 times out of 10 those CharX calves are also going to weigh 50+++ lbs more than the Baldies too. I really think we need to look at what the market was doing when it was last down. AT 106 to 122 a cwt EVERY cow should be paying her own way and then some.

Sorry Longhorn guys.......$89.38!! That is a $100+ a head DOCK! Yikes!! YOU know the feedlot guys made a killing on that deal.

Yea, I wish they had identified the Red Angus. Is a Black Baldie really bringing $5 a cwt more than a Red Baldie?? And where are the Gelbviehs? Angus x Gelbvieh or Charolais x Gelbvieh is normally a pretty strong cross. Are there really more Salers than Gelbviehs in Arkansas?

Brandonm2, I don,t know the answers on those crosses, i only posted what was in the Arkansas Cattle Business mag.

I do know the the Reds of any breed or cross don,t bring what the Yellows an Blacks will at the sale barn that i go to.
I talked to to some of the buyers from OK. an Texas an they told me they came to buy Blacks an Yellows.
They will buy Reds but will not pay top dollar.

Well if I don't think my calves are bringing enough I retain ownership and sell on a grid-then colour doesn't matter diddly squat. Actually I retain ownership most times-I'm not smart enough to guess what the colour of the month is going to be at the salebarn.

Even they might not know. It could be based on hard data but it could also be based on nothing more than personal prejudice, old wives tales, etc. If there was solid data it seems like there would be more consistency from place to place but according to many posters here preferences vary widely from sale to sale, place to place. It seems that a good feeder one place should be a good feeder elsewhere. It seems there should be less regional variation with feeder that get basically the same treatment whereever they are than with breeding cattle that eat different forage, calve in different climates, etc.
