I was just curious what all you folks thought of the Belgian Blue cattle?

Judging from the number of views and no replies, people must not think very much of them. ;-)

I don't have any experience with them, nor do I know of anyone who has. All I do know about them is EXTREMELY heavy muscled animals, but struggle with calving ease and carcass quality. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that.

You don't see many in commercial cattle herds, so that probably tells you something.

we had belgian blue cows. calving ease is poor. even when bred to another breed.

a BB bull crossed on other breeds makes a good terminal calf. black is popular here, so breeding to a black breed like angus or brangus will give you higher selling calves. buyers don't like a lot of white.

the meat is tasty :D

good terminal breed that puts muscle on anything.
most unpractical calvings in purebreds; either loss of calves or csections.
My friend roger breeds bb both as crosses and purebreds and he has found several lines that gives easyer calvings the best is valentino de pappillion bull.
The calvings get better bif you feed sparse in third trimester.
the breed gives extra milk in crossbreds.
It is a tryly ugly and unelegant breed.
´There are other breeds with muscle that looks nice; piedmontese blonde dacuitaine limo square meater gasconne naturalean piedmontese
