Automation taking jobs.............

Pretty amazing machine but I don't think it's "taking" jobs. While it has removed laborious jobs it has created different jobs and jobs that, more than likely, pay more money. Someone had to design the machines, build them, operate them and service them.
 
True....and amazing we're just not using concrete cross ties....saw a railroad made of them in Mexico 20 years ago.

Most of the new high speed lines are all concrete ties. Only thing that gets wood ties back is when they have to replace rotten ones. It is truly amazing watching that piece of equipment work. Even more amazing how incredibly expensive it is to put in that rail.

Bet it don't run cheap. Still mostly wood ties around here. Good thing is they can probably lay more rail in a half day than the old school method could lay in 2 weeks. And like most jobs there will still be a dozen or more RR company trucks sitting around with the occupants "watching". :lol2:
