1993 Ford F250 7.3L IDI engine needed a new lift pump.

Got one from NAPA and the mechanic said the armature was too long.Checked with NAPA and part number was correct according to their parts book. Also checked with Federated.Wrong again.
I'm beginning to think someone before me used the wrong pump and got by even though the armature was shorter.I can get one from Ford dealer but it's twice the price.
Any experience or suggestions would be helpful.

The total length of the arm doesn't matter as long as there's no interference, just the length to the contact point with your drive cam. I've replaced a dozen or so of those pumps on our old trucks way back when, and always remembered thinking they had really long driven arms.
