Let's see. I get around 18-19 miles per gallon running empty at 75MPH on the interstate. 13 pulling a loaded or unloaded stock trailer. Performance is much better than my old 7.3 but I sure liked the 7.3L. I have the SuperCab 4x4 long bed. Ride is much better than my old 96 F250 4x4.

Be careful with used 6L motors. Early 03's had some problems. Some 04' and 05's still are having problems but nothing as drastic as the early 03's had. I lost a turbo but the dealer took care of it quickly.

Lots more to talk about on this truck but I need a nap.

I currently drive an 04 Dodge crew cab with the cummins. More power than I ever need. 20 to 22 MPG hwy empty. 17 to 18 mpg with day to day driving. 14 to 17 mpg pulling stock trailer. 10 to 14 mpg pulling loaded 40' flatbed gooseneck with tractor loader and other equipment. Lots of wind resisentence. Just like pulling a barn door.

Our company also owns an 04 Ford F250 with the 6L. Gets about the same mileage.

Both seem to perform very similar. Both are automatics with 3.73 gears. Both trucks are good trucks.

A friend has a chevy with the Duramax. Similar mileage, but doesn't have the takeoff power of the ford and the dodge.

'05 F-350 Crew Cab 4x4 LWB with a 6.0 PSD = 17mpg on my first tank. I'm on my second tank now, and expect it to get a little better if I break it in right. That 17 mpg was highway driving, unloaded, mostly running 60-70 mph. Haven't pulled anything yet.

On the hwy running empty I get a whopping 13, towing I get around 11.5-12.8.
Now for the $24K, what would cause such horrible mileage?

Dun, if I remember right I think you have a 250 or 350 7.3L Ford right? Automatic? My 7.3L was a 5 speed (4 with OD) but 1st was only used for pulling stumps. It had 4.10 gears so only got about 15-16 HW but I could pull almost anything and still get 13MPG. I heard the 7.3 auto's don't do as well. Need to know your gear also. You should get better as I know you don't drive them as hard as I do. You may have a couple weak injectors or even bad. Have run the diagnotics on it at Ford to see if anything is complaining.

'99 350 dually /7.3/ auto / 4.10

13-16 mpg highway unloaded. If you can keep the rpm at or around 2k, then you'll get 16. I've even seen 17 when the moon and stars lined up right. That's right around 60 mph for us. If you run 70-75 mph, you'll get 13. Pulling a heavy load (15k+ not including trailer weight) I don't look for more than 10-11, and consider myself lucky to get that. All bets are off if the better half (aka 'ol lead foot) is driving, which is most of the time.

I get an average of around 14 to 15 MPG with my 2004 F350 6.0L 4x4 crew cab dually with the 4.10 gears. When towing my 13,000 pound fifth wheel I get around 10.

Thats averaging over 45,000 miles so far.

I've got a 2001 Dodge 6.0 L with 140,000 miles that gets 22 mpg hyw or 18 in town loaded or unloaded. But hook up even a small empty trailer and it drops to 14 mpg or less.

My 85 250 6.9 4spd 4.10 gears got 15 loaded or empty. My 95 350 PSD 5 spd also gets 15mpg. And for a ton flatbed it will turn on a dime. love that part. Its tough to drive a chevy when your used to these fords turning radius.
