i got a bull that is 18 months and have now decided that he won't make a good breeder so i am going to feed him for a bit and then butcher him.my question is this...should i castrate him before slaughter or just leave him be? will the meat be better one way over another? butchered a 2 yr old bull with a broken penis last spring and the meat was ok but not as good as the heifers before him, don't know if that was because he was a bull or cause of the injury and stress.the meat had a tough rind around the outside edges.the burger was excellent.

I have banded some big bulls but never cut one.
Banding will slow him down for a week or two.
I think the question is how fat you want to get him?

i did'nt know u could band a bull this old.do u think there is any advantage to banding him now?

Leave him be! His meat has bull caracteristics already, and nothing wrong with that.
