    Coyotes in Washington Area

We have lost a few to coyotes over the years. Not many but enough to make you hate them. They will almost always get a calf as it’s being born or immediately afterward. Or they will get a sick animal that is too weak to fight. Snaring and calling is great sport. Set snares in out of the way...

I'd just drag her off and let the birds and varmints do their thing.

Anybody who is willing to do these things is off to a real good start.

"Ship Her" Not to my sale, thank you.

Mike I’ve enjoyed and agreed with some of your other posts but I’m not sure what to make of this one. It sounds like you started off knocking the idea of buying replacements at a sale barn and wound up knocking the idea of selling calves there. We do both and we do just fine at it. It’s not...

    band or castrate?

We give a tetanus shot if we’re banding a big calf, nothing when we’re using the cheerio bander except for the regular blackleg combo.

"Ship Her" Not to my sale, thank you.

Stocky and Dave made a couple of excellent posts with several excellent posts. The best proof that salebarns are crooked operations that are always selling sorry cattle is their clientele. Have you ever noticed how the old timers and the folks who really know cattle never ever go the sale...

    Callicrate Smart bander

We use the EZ Bander also when we miss a calf and he's too big for the cherio bander. We don't miss that many so I've never gotten great at it but it's not hard. It takes some getting used to but works well. Looked at the callicrate and decided it was too high compared to the EZ but nothing...

    At home surgery

Ollie, you’re starting to sound as bad as my dad. Growing up I was taught that just about any human ailment could be cured by Campho-Phenique or rubbing alcohol or a sharp knife and perhaps a pair of pliers. Craig-TX

cow walks around with tail up..

Without getting too graphic, there is a chance that when you weren’t around she was bred. Hard. Time will tell. Craig-TX

How big/old is she and how big/old is your bull? Craig-TX

    Speaking of bulls...

That’s why the old bulls, when they get a scent, raise their heads and curl their lips. They want the young bulls to think that stuff’s not any good. Craig-TX

    Just a Quick Survey...

We use loose and block. Prefer loose but you need to keep it in a dry place such as a feeder or in a trough under a roof. Even then it still cakes up. Block you can leave out. Craig-TX

    fly tags

To me they are the most expensive (money and time) and least effective. Mostly due to the short time they work and the headache of tagging. Craig-TX
