    Animal immobilizer

Absolutely nothing, but.......Our certification is through Global Animal Partnership and they include their version of Humane treatment in the certification. Several of their board members are former PETA type people. For example we cant use a Callicrate bander, or extermination as a form of...

Cow not chewing her cud - spitting out cud

Thank heavens you were able to talk her down this time. I usually like my beef to hang themselves. Just makes it easier. :lol2: @ Chippie; my picky eater comment was a joke. Glad to hear she is getting better bigbluegrass, sounds like the probiotics just needed some time to do its job.

New to the farm world. Would like some input on a calf.

Sunlight will kill ringworm. Most people don't mess with it because it will go away on its own and doesn't cause any lasting issues. Im curious why you cant go in there with them. Just wash your hands real good when you come out. Ring worm will scale up like scabs and crack and that's...

    Animal immobilizer

Sustained electrical shock similar to a tazer. Immobilizes the muscle. We aren't aloud to use one or we lose our Natural beef certification.

Small Fluid Sac on Calf's Head

Sounds like an infection from something to me. If it hurts her to touch it I would lance it, maybe even give a shot of antibiotic right into it. If its a big enough sac I might even treat it like lump jaw. I strongly doubt its spinal fluid or anything like that.

    Sore foot, Fescue poisoning?

Yeah, 300 yards isn't that far, I would get her up to the pen and take a look. If it is the fescue causing the lack of blood flow just changing her feed is the most you can do so the crabgrass is a good start.

    Garlic for Fly Control

Never heard of a federal recycling mandate. I have never lived anywhere that trash pickup was twice a week. Sounds expensive. I have used the fly bates before and they worked wonderful. Smelled terrible though. Not sure if it will work, but try putting some rubbing alcohol or bleach in the...

Wetting down an animal to cool

Exactly, soaking wet and moving air will feel like an air conditioner regardless of the humidity level. If you don't believe me then pick your most humid day, soak a bandana, put it over your face, stand in front of a fan and see how good that feels.

    Sore foot, Fescue poisoning?

Yeah, need to take a look at it and make sure she isn't injured or there is a good chance it could get worse. Anyone you can borrow a portable chute from, or make one from a few cattle panels? If it is the fescue then the cause is lack of blood flow to the hoof and you will need to get her into...

Cow not chewing her cud - spitting out cud

Im curious what a depressed cow looks like. ;-) Maybe she is just a picky eater, I wouldn't worry about it unless you see her starting to loose significant body condition or her condition falls observably lower than your other cattle in her age group. Give the probiotics a chance.

Cattle tail louse: cows and calves losing switch

I have to agree with red bull breeder, unless you can see the louse it sounds like fescue poisoning. Not a real issue other than cosmetic.

    Interesting question...pond water

My wife wont swim in our ponds normally either. Thinks she needs a swimming pool. The cats tasted just fine, so do the bass and the crappy. ;-)

    Interesting question...pond water

Just one question. If I fill in all my ponds were am I going to fish and swim? ;-) Seriously though. I use ponds to water my cattle. I dont know if Oklahoma cows are smarter than those in other parts but this last summer when it was dry I did see them walk past a mud pit with a little water...

    Question on minerals and tubs

I would say if they look healthy otherwise then dont worry about it. If they arent going through it like before then they are most likely getting what they need from other sources, ie: the better pasture. I wouldnt stop moving the tubs though. They still need free acces to minerals and its...

    testes wont fall

I have never had one that I could feel, but couldnt work down. Are you trying to hold on to the dropped one while you are working on the other. Maybe try letting that one go and see if you can work the other one down if you are. I have had to do that on occasion.

    Protein/Mag Tubs VS Loose Minerals

Ok, did some quick research and I guess that is low for the age of my bulls, but its working for us and we have a good demand for our bulls and the calves they sire so I think we will stick with it for at least the time being.

    Protein/Mag Tubs VS Loose Minerals

Well I guess to each their own. Anyway you slice it its working for us. I dont think one bull for ten head is all that low of a rate per bull.
