Which Red Angus and Red Simmental bulls to use?

I dont have any, but I LOVE fleck simmies. I can't give any advice on the Red Angus, but I do know of a red sim bull by Dream On that I think is pretty nice if you dont want to shell out for Dream's semen. (which is still high, as far as i know) DILLONS K217 RED DREAM...

Ahh. What a great Idea! I kinda like AverageHorns But thats just me. What about Simmental and a Shorthorn breed? We could call them "ShortenTalls"

    shorthorn

Yeah, I can agree with the junking them. Sadly, they arent actually mine. We (My dad and I)own the farm with my Aunt and her daughter. THEY own the pretty little shorthorns (and their "pet" cow herefords  not knockin herfs here, because I know that there are great ones out there, I've...

    shorthorn

We raise beef shorthorn in addition to our main simmental herd. Some are better show prospects, but I gotta say that simmentals 'work' out in the pasture better than our shorthorns. Our shorts tend to loose a lot of condition, are very high maintenance, and we do have a few calving issues(not a...

    Pasture Condition (pic)

I've never been one to like the looks of the Longhorn (not tryin to start a fight, I just don't know much about 'em) But I like the looks of this guy. He looks like he's holdin up just fine!

Limi Bull Makes a Break for it

I know who the breeder is, and have seen them show many times. It would really surprise me if they brought anything "iffy" to the fair. I am completely confidant that this bull was not "nutty" or he would have stayed home. In fact, I would go as far as to say that I am sure that he was a very...

    Simmentals. Legacy Outcrosses?

I went out and looked at them again, and I can only see one being coarse shouldered (the same one that toes out.) ...so I guess that really isnt a big problem. Anyway, Thanks for the comments. We will take a look at those bulls everyone suggested.

    Simmentals. Legacy Outcrosses?

We have a small group of Fall Heifers from Nichols Legacy on the ground. They are square hipped, and long boddied. Strong backed heifers. They are lacking in depth, and some are a little coarse shouldered. One heifer toes out slightly off of her front end. So....Im looking for a good...

    Our Shorthorn Bull-Pics-

Thanks Everyone. Doc- I agree on the bone, but could you please explain the "milking shorthorn" characteristics? I dont think that I follow. Here's another picture. If anyone knows how to flip it, please help me out. Untill then, just tilt your head. ;-) And please...ignore the old herf...

    Our Shorthorn Bull-Pics-

Ok, Here he is. "Baxter" is PB Shorthorn. Thats pretty much all that I know about him. He's my dads "project", so when he gets home from workin, I'll ask him to show me the rest of the information on him. If I remember correctly- He's 2 years old. We are renting him for our small shorthorn herd...

Best cross breed with an angus

For a nice brood cow, I like SimAngus crosses. Of course, you need the right kind of Angus cow to get a 'show steer' calf. If you want show, then breed club, since it's just gonna be freezer beef in the end. If the "steer" turnes out to be a heifer, show her, and then butcher her. I dont think...

    Animal Pictures in Magazines Question

For the most part, they are taken naturally. Like others have said..it is just a waiting game. I do know of one bull in a magazine that had his picture altered. I can't remember his name, but, I had two different magazines side by side. His picture was in both magazines. In one picture, you...

    Super Pig

the monsterpig.com pictures are obviously photoshoped. I think that it could be possible for a pig that size, but even considering camera angle and position, the pig looks photoshoped. I could do a better job at staging that act! Just look at the lighting. The color of the pig vs...

    Muscle Anyone?

They are..um..not for me. They look like giant pigs..for a moment, I acutally thought that it was a photoshoped picture WITH pigs. (well sadly its not)

    Bull review.

My choice between 111 and 105 would be 111. (did not look at epd's computer screen didnt want to zoom today.) Coments on both 105- Nice back. Decent length. I dont like his "pot belly" apearance. His legs seem kinda short. And now the show side of me is going to speak. He is wasty up front, has...

    Shorthorn Breeders

About 1/4 of my herd is registered shorthorn. We breed for function and show ability. (around here, competition isnt killer, so we are not very show-minded.) I agree with a few of you. I like the apendix shorthorns! I think that it gets those nice looking shorthorn cross calves out of the...
