    2015 Calving

I have not been on here in awhile! But Here are some pictures from my spring calving season :) Ctrl- may need to be used to view them completely. It was the only way to keep the quality a little better! Daughter(right) came to see her new brother! Two weeks later she had a heifer calf. Heifer...

    Twins....Again!

For those of you who saw my post last year of the brahman twins, we lost one and the other survived. Well yesterday my dad arrived at the ranch and see's the cow(different cow from last year) licking something. He saw a calf and thought she was licking afterbirth. He walks to get a closer look...

    August Brahman Calving Has Started

All of these babies are out of Legacy Rico's grey half brother. I'l have some Rico babies next spring. I love Legacy's calves! Rico is probably bigger than Legacy, but now that Legacy has put on his "mature bull" weight not sure who I like best. Rico is the beefy muscular bull, legacy is the...

    August Brahman Calving Has Started

Only problem I've had was one having twins(The tan cow in the pics) and not wanting the other. Other than that no problems. They calve just fine. My bull throws calves around 50-60 lbs. My cows and heifers are bred to him. I watched one of my brahman heifer calve last year. After water sack...

    :( Poor Baby

She is not bawling. I think sometimes cows know when there babies are gone for good. HEr bag was not tight when I was there but it wasn't tight when she calved. She is in a small pasture there are trees in the back of the pasture. But not once while I was there did she leave the group. I was out...

    :( Poor Baby

Well Baby, my favorite and first brahman heifer had a heifer last Monday. Thursday I got a call from my cousin saying he had not seen the calf in 2 days. He looked everywhere and no calf. I went this past weekend and nothing. :( I guess something got the calf. Baby was a little down this...

    Preg check accuracy

I had Avet call a cow 30 days bred. She calved the next month. Same vet called some cows open and they went to the sale barn and that vet said they were 4-5 months bred. Luckily i sold them for reasons other than being open.

    Freemartin Question

I was just curious I've read on here that some free martins will breed but won't carry to full term. Is it possible to flush a free Martin for embryos? If she was from.good genetics and was built nice.

    AI Synch Cleanup

Thanks for the tips! I think I will use conventional semen. I leave all the shots to my AI guy. I will talk to him and see how he think I should do it.

    AI Synch Cleanup

Maybe conventional is the way to go if I was going to AI once. I would be Ai'ing 8 head some will have calves on them. I have to take them to a guy to Ai them. I do not live at my ranch and I do not have someone to watch them as close as they would need to detect who has come back in heat. And...

    AI Synch Cleanup

I have decided that I would synch and AI half my brahman in October to sexed semen. I would only attempt AI once. I have an experienced AI guy doing this for me. I have two options. 1. Synch 1. Synch 2. AI...

    Twin update

Heifer was making a big recovery. I did get a little colostrum down her Sunday morning. She wouldn't nurse the bottle (She had the ability to suck she just did not want the bottle). She nursed her mom though. I poured colostrum in her mouth and made her swallow it. Heifer was fine during the...

    Twin update

Heifer did not starve! She was gaining weight. Cow was put in the chute and the heifer nursed in the morning. Cow was turned out during the day. And in the evening, when the cow was brought up(she had a full bag), she was put in the chute again and the heifer got to nurse as long as she...

    Twin update

I guess there was a reason the cow abandoned her.

    Twin update

Well the heifer didn't make it. I am not sure what happened. She had been perking up getting stronger and nursing well. She was gaining weight. I do not think the cow hurt her. My dad said the calf didn't look like she had been tramplede or anything. He got back at 12 today and went to the pen...

    Big Surprise

Thanks Heifer is perking up and is gaining weight. Cow is cooperating. So maybe she will take baby.

    Big Surprise

They are brahman. Cow who lost calf seemed a little interested, but calf was the one not interested. The cow who lost her calf is hard to work with in the pen. She tries to fight. So its not worth having to pen her up and get the calf to nurse, because someone or the calf may get hurt in the...

    Big Surprise

I talked with my cousin today. He said she had a lot more energy today. Which means she is getting stronger. She gets to nurse first in the evenings. The bull has an opportunity to nurse after her and the cow is with them at night so he can nurse her up until cow is turned out in the morning.
