I use my bull for 200 yard target practice,,,it doesn't phase him, I hit him right on the head one time in 100 or so trys. My pasture is more like a big sand trap, the bahia is so spotty, I am going to re seed it if we ever get any rain.

How do I turn a below average pasture into a super pasture

I may add,,,weed control. The one thing most people don't consider is that a field with lots of weeds is costing the same to grow as the grass you want and need. I think most people could show a min of 10% gain in the feed produced in a pasture or hay field with an aggressive weed control...

    Feeding hay

John, your cows always look good. I am glad to hear you got enough hay for the winter. I am picking up another 12 rolls this weekend and another 12 in a few weeks if I think I need it.I will buy some soy hull pellets if I need to this fall and winter. I sure am glad I left the 6 acres of Bahia...

    Last one for the Year

John, do you have enough hay to get you through winter. I see a lot of peanut hay rolled down here. Has anyone heard the news lately predicting a low rain totals for this coming winter also. I am second guessing now to plant rye or not.

    Last one for the Year

CB, is alive   I finally got all the hay I need for winter and left one pasture grow and just turned the cows out on it with some protein tubs, its cheaper than getting it baled too.

    Dried up pastures -

Billy, I guess that is one big plus for the Bahia pasture, I have a 6 acre spot that is about a foot tall and starting to grow sead heads and the base is about 8 inches tall. I had 10 ton of litter put on it at the end of April and have spread the cow piles twice with my tire drag. I am not sure...

    How much to custom bale

I paid $14.00 per roll, 4.5x5 rolls and have been quoted as high as 20 for 5x6 rolls. Ask him if he will cut on halves and it will be free then, that might get you the hay and not cost you anymore out of pocket, a good solution if you can do with half the hay. My problem is the small amount I...

Oil but this time spraying oil

I use dish detergent and it seems to works just as well with my 2-4-D spraying. I put 8 oz to a 25 gal tank. I had a feed store owner tell me to use it verses buying something more expensive.

    Redneck's Guide to Hay Testing

I tested a few of those in cold bottles this weekend at Logans Roadhouse along with a nice steak dinner. The only problem they wouldn't let me bring the bale of hay in with me.

    Hay Gouging?

You know, I can smile knowing that even with a post about what some consider hay price to be to high. The good in people still come shinning through. And on a good note, we had about 3/10 of rain last night and I hope and pray others got some much needed rain. :)
