    Just Curious

For what its worth.... I was once given a show stick by an older friend that was completely bent all out of shape, she said that was the stick they trained with. I think we still have it somewhere.

In case you want to know more about livestock judging

Might want to check this one out too. Cheaper and will probably be more helpful in the long run. http://www.livestockjudging.com

should I market him as a 4H project steer?

In my opinion, there's a big difference between showing up with a steer and showing a steer.

4H Balancer Heifer Project Update.New Pics

3way- she cleaned up really nicely!! And I do like the choice of Northern Improvement, he makes them fancy but still practical. Tell her Good Luck from all of us, and keep us posted!

    Rent-A-Heifer?

Well I'm pretty sure this type of stuff is frowned upon in Junior Shows. Open shows it doesn't make a difference. IMO- as long as the Junior Member is doing the work, I could care less if (s)he paid X amount of dollars for the calf because in my opinion they are bartering their time and labor...

    market lamb questions.

Hahaha, It's all good I guess. I don't really get caught up in terminology with regards to spieces but I know some can get really picky about it. Probably my greatest goof-up of that type was last year when we were at the national livestock judging contest I definitely used the term "calving"...

    Running calf to build muscle???

Wait a minute, Your son and his friends are actually chasing their show steers everyday at school? Sounds like the advisor of the project at school needs to teach them how to properly care for livestock. Not to mention good luck showing that calf at the fair!

    cooling room?

Believe me it doesn't hit close to home. I don't raise show cattle, nor do I think I ever will. But I guess the comment that really stuck out in my mind was wanting to "level the playing field". I'm just getting sick of hearing that. Everything has to be fair, and equal. Somebody's got an...

    cooling room?

Actually I'm going to disagree here. People that show cattle, and show cattle seriously/professionally/(whatever you want to call it) have been showing cattle with hair for years. Clipping, Fitting, Feeding, Growing Hair, etc al. ---- That's all part of the game. Now if you don't want to play...

    Next years Show heifer

Probably could be if you're not around maines too much. How are red poll ears? There was an old man on RFD the other night -- i think it was the cattle show... maybe? -- that had had some red polls most of his life. It was pretty interesting, I always like listening to some of the older generation.

I don't think there's any Brahman influence in her and she'll probably grow into her ears - their not that big.

    Video: Fitting and Showing Tips

Nice work! Pretty informative video. To get any better you'd have to buy one from the professionals.

What do you think of my latest purchas?

Or is it an indication that she still has more growing to do?

What do you think of this heifer?

There's a little bit more work to it than that. If raising cattle were that easy everyone would be winning at Denver.(Or for JOVID, everyone's bulls would be in great shape after breeding season ;-) ) I can see where both sides are coming from, but the important thing is you're headed in the...
