    new show heifer questions.

Yes, sitting in the stall with her is the best first way to start. You have the right idea, get her some feed and put it in the stall with you and the calf. Do this for a few days. Everyday, have the feed closer to you. Before you know it, she will be eating out of your hand, and then you...

Taken away the bottle and he won't drink water!

Maybe you could try just putting one of the older steers in the pen with the bottle calf. He probably needs a buddy and maybe he would copy the actions of another calf. And you never know, he could be drinking and you not even know it. I mean you can't possibly keep an eye on him for 24 hours...

    Heat detection

Spray some tail adhesive on there and it won't come off!

    Fence Rows

This is just plain grass that grows in the yard. I will stick with round up then. I guess the person that told me it would grow back within a month was wrong. Thanks for the advice.

    Fence Rows

This may be dumb, but what do you spray on fence rows to kill plain ole grass dead. Not round-up, but something strong so I wouldn't have to weedeat for awhile. This is in my yard. Thanks.

    knot on a cow.

So what did the vet say the exact diagnosis was? Just curious in case it happens to me, because of course my cows eat out of a hay ring. Glad you figured out what was wrong.

    knot on a cow.

An abscess will be soft. If you have experience, you could lance it yourself. First stick a needle in it and then pull it out to make sure there is even puss inside the knot. If there is puss trapped then some will come out the small hole you made with the needle. Then you know it needs to be...

    New Herd Bull

He is a reg. angus. His sire is Grid Topper and his dam is a Cowboy Up Daughter. He just turned a year old on April 1. What do yall think about him, his faults and the good things? Thanks.

    Weird Buck

I shot this weird buck Saturday afternoon and I have never seen anything like it before. I live in east Texas. As soon as I saw him I knew he needed to go. His antelers are still in velvet, that's just crazy for this time of year. The little nubby horn was still soft and wiggly not all the way...

    Blood In Calf's Stool

I have a bull calf that is 7 1/2 months old. I keep him in a lot because I just weaned him two weeks ago. Yes, curse me for falling behind on my job. For the past couple of days his stool has been a little loose, but this morning I noticed blood in it. The first thing that came into my mind was...

    Bull Calf

Thanks for everyone's honest opinions. I didn't figure that he would be worth keeping as a bull, but it was something that me and my dad have been disagreeing about. My dad doesn't know much about cattle, it is kind of something I do on my own.

    Bull Calf

This was the heifers first calf. The bull calf's sire was a New Horizon son. The cow is already bred back again and should be calving in December-February. She bred back to either the New Horizon son again or to a Sagahatchee (sp?) son - both Reg. Angus. I will probably be AIing her next time...

    Bull Calf

This calf is out of my old show heifer from a couple years ago. Does he look worth keeping and raising as a bull, or would you send him to the sale barn? There is also a picture of his dam. Thanks for any opinions!

    calf question

So weaning him that early won't keep him from growing to his full potential, right? That's just what I am worried about.

    calf question

Why do you wean a bottle calf at 2 months, but you don't wean a pasture calf until 6 or so?? I am raising him to be a bull so I don't want him to miss out on any milk.
